Mommy Facebook Survey

There's a fun survey going around Facebook. Being that we're still snowed in (no school for the boys yet AGAIN tomorrow), I decided to take part in it. Here's what you do:

"Without any prompting, ask your child these questions and write down exactly what they say. It's a great way to see what they think."

I brought each boy into my room, one by one, and asked away. Below are my favorite answers. (In case you don't already know, I refer to my oldest as "No.1", my middle child as "No.2", and my youngest as "No.3")

1. What is something mommy always says to you? I love you or sit down-No.2
2. What makes mommy happy? Starbucks-No.2
3. What makes mommy sad? When we don't clean our rooms-No.3
4. How does mommy make you laugh? Dancing-No.1 & No.2
5. What was mommy like as a child? Smart-No.1
6. How old is mommy? 39-No.3
7. How tall is mommy? 5'9-No.2
8. What is mommy's favorite thing to do? To be with us-No.2
9. What does mommy do when you're not around? Celebrate-No.2
10. If mommy becomes famous, what will it be for? Cooking-No.2
11. What is mommy really good at? Cleaning-No.3
12. What is mommy not very good at? Playing video games-No.3
13. What does mommy do for a job? Help lawyers-No.1 & No.2
14. What is mommy's favorite food? Yogurt with raspberries and granola-No.3
15. What makes you proud of mommy? Everything-No.3
16. If mommy were a character, who would she be? Flash because she can do multiple things at once-No.1
17. What do you and mommy do together? Go to football games-No.2
18. How are you and mommy the same? We both have curls in our hair-No.3
19. How are you and mommy different? I'm more athletic-No.1
20. How do you know mommy loves you? Because I'm cute-No.3
21. What is mommy's favorite place to go? Starbucks-No.1, 2, &3
22. How old was mommy when you were born? 10 years ago, almost the same birthday...20?-No.2
23. What is mommy's favorite thing to say? NO-No.2

I truly enjoyed doing this activity, and so did my boys. After dinner, I read aloud each question and their corresponding answers. The boys found it SO funny. They asked if we can do a "papi version" next. Good times!

Blizzard of 2016

We were hit with well over 2 feet of snow here in Northern Virginia! It began to fall on Friday afternoon and continued to come down until around 11:30pm on Saturday.

The boys are loving it! Schools have already announced that they will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

As you can see, no snowmen were made here...there was a whole lot of football played though! Stay warm, friends.

10 Signs You're Probably Married to a Football Coach

  1. You see your child's school binder laying on the kitchen table. As you begin to yell out "Didn't I ask you to clean up after yourself?", you realize it isn't theirs after all- it's your husband's play book. The one written in a language only him and his players understand!
  2. Your husband's cell phone is constantly alerting him of a new text. Don't worry. He's not cheating on you, Mama. He's texting back and forth with his assistant coaches about this Saturday's game. It'll slow down at the end of the season, I promise!
  3. What?? Your husband is doing the dishes without even being asked? Nah, he's just making space in the sink to sterilize his team's water bottles.
  4. You can't fit a single grocery bag in the trunk of your SUV. Duh! It's filled with footballs, shoulder pads, tackling dummies, and water bottles.
  5. You bought your SUV exclusively for the third row. How else can your husband transport half of the team to and from practices?
  6. Your brand new SUV will smell like a portable locker room. Quick. It's okay. Nothing a little Febreze and cracked windows can't fix. I recommend waiting until after the season ends, of course!
  7. The kids are in bed and your husband turns on the television. Don't get too excited Mama, he's not putting on your favorite show. He's about to study film from yesterday's game. Ha!
  8. You are constantly sweeping up what appears to be rodent droppings. No need to call pest control! They're just "turf turds"- you know, those little black pieces of synthetic turf.
  9. Your fireplace mantle serves as not only a place for your beautifully and strategically placed pieces of décor, but for your husband's championship game runners-up trophy as well. I have to admit. I kind of like it there.
  10. You suddenly become Mama to an entire team of boys and you absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Our Trip to D.C.

I was born and raised less than 6 miles from Washington D.C., in Arlington, Virginia. I could, and literally would watch the Fourth of July fireworks (you know the real-deal ones that people come from all over to see?) from a rinky dink bridge hovering over Route 50 right outside of my old middle school. Yep, I was that close.

As a child, I never really got all the fascination with our Nation's Capital. What was so amazing about "the big pencil" as I use to call it? I saw it all the time.  As an adult, I now get it. My family and I are frequent visitors to the Smithsonian's National Zoo, National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of National History (what boy doesn't like dinosaurs, right?), the cherry blossoms, The Wharf (no summer is complete without fresh crab legs and jumbo shrimp. And the corn, you cannot forget the freshly steamed ears of corn!), and The Verizon Center (The Wiggles, WWE, the Washington Wizards, you get the point).

Trying to figure out what to do on an unusually warm December Sunday, I thought to myself "we've never been to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool before". I've seen so many amazing pictures, but had yet to have captured any myself. So I packed up the camera, the boys, and we jumped in the car. After about a 25 minute drive (I now live a little further out) and an additional 15-20 minutes looking for parking, we were there!

Boy, was it beautiful! The mild temperature, the diverse groups of people, the day was absolutely perfect.

We ended our day of sightseeing with a trip to Cold Stone Creamery. History and ice cream, it
doesn't get much better than that.

Football End of Season Party Ideas

After three long months of hard work and an amazing Championship game run season, our boys deserved to go out with a bang!

I went with a laser tag party, which included two games of laser tag (even the coaches could play!) and pizza  because what kid doesn't like pizza (ok, my oldest child doesn't, but his twelve teammates do!)? Best of all, the players' parents didn't have to come out of their pockets, whatsoever. Did I cover it myself you ask? Not at all. The entire expense was covered by our Touchdown Jar . Our grand total came to $391.46!

We were blessed to have such a great group of football moms and dads this season! They were always willing to help, both on the field and off. So, it was no surprise when one of the moms offered to supply the cake. How awesome is she? And this cake??

As previously mentioned, our team made it to the Championship and as a result our club paid for their trophies! I ordered them from Trophy Depot. Aren't they lovely?

I was able to have a custom t-shirt made for every player on our team (and Coach Hubby!) with the remaining money from the touchdown jar! They had our team picture on the front, and last name and jersey number on the back. The boys were thrilled!

Can't forget about the coaches, right? I ordered each one a personalized football! This was not covered by the touchdown jar. They were covered by donations from the parents. I simply sent out an email asking for contributions from those who were able to help- no amount specified. I found them on Etsy.com. Sorry about the poor picture quality, I forgot to take a close up photo with my real camera.

Remember how amazing I said our group of parents were? Well, they truly out did themselves this season. They surprised me with a  football trophy bank, a HUGE cowbell, and a gift card for a food prep service!

Until next season!
