10 Signs You're Probably a Basketball Mom

After football and soccer comes BASKETBALL! No. 1 will be playing for his high school team and both No. 2 and No. 3 will be playing rec ball through our local youth club. I can't wait! It was 33 degrees during yesterday's soccer game... 33 degrees. No, thank you!

Here are TEN telltale signs that you're probably a basketball mama too...

  1. You never leave home without your stadium seat, that just so happens to be in your team colors. Ain't nobody got time for bleacher butt!
  2. 99.9% of your Instagram posts end with #ballislife.
  3. You have more water bottles lying around in your car than you do people in your family to actually drink from them. So that's where they all went!
  4. You know your way to all of the gyms within a 50 mile radius of your house. Who needs Waze? Get yourself a basketball mom instead!
  5. Summer tourneys are your family vacations. How else would you be able to squeeze in a four day trip to the beach without missing a single game or practice?!
  6. Your non-basketball mom friends look at you like you're crazy when you tell them you're charged an entry fee to watch your own child play!
  7. You can't wait for your baller's annual checkup with their pediatrician to find out just how much (fingers crossed!) they've grown. Is he 6'5 yet, doctor??
  8. Your charm bracelet collection has been taken over by those brightly colored, admission wristbands. Pink, purple, orange, green. Name it, you've got it!
  9. You know so much about sneakers that people think you work for Foot Locker; When they come out, how much they cost, what NBA players are wearing them.
  10. You also know that a good pair of slides are just as essential as their sneakers, even if they are only worn on the way to and from games!

Good luck this season, Mamas!

10 Signs You're Probably a Soccer Mom

I love soccer season. I really do. In fact, soccer was the very beginning of my "Sports Mama Career". I've been a soccer mom for almost 10 years now (oh, that makes me feel old!).

Here are ten telltale signs that you're probably one too...

  1. You have multiple weather apps on your cellphone. And you check them several times a day. Maybe, just maybe that 95% chance of thunderstorms on game day will change if I check it one more time!
  2. You have a portable chair in the trunk of your car. It reclines, has a cup holder, and a canopy. And your entire family knows not to touch it!
  3. Whenever you open your trunk to load groceries there's a 99.9% chance that a soccer ball (or two, or three!) will come rolling out. Hand eye coordination Mama, hand eye coordination!
  4. There are water bottles every where you look; the backseat of your car, in your kid's room, heck, even in your purse. Yet, you still can't manage to walk through Target without picking up a new one.
  5. You drive your kid home from practice will all the windows down. Two words: shin guards! And if you're the mom of a goalie, bless your sweet heart. Goalie gloves may be about the only things that smell worse. GAG!
  6. You spend waaay too much time on Pinterest. How else would you find all those cute soccer mom shirts and come up with all those fun, post-game snack ideas?
  7. Nutmeg is no longer the name of a spice in your household.
  8. You always know which store has oranges on sale. And you can slice 10 of them in the blink of an eye.
  9. You buy the largest bottles of sunscreen and bug spray you can find. And you have a back up stash, just in case. Sunburn and those pesky bugs don't stand a chance!
  10. You have no free Saturdays the entire season. Between commuting to and from the games, arriving early at the games for warm-ups, and the actual games themselves, you basically live at the field. And you absolutely LOVE it!

Good luck this season, Mamas!

10 Signs You May Be Suffering From Football Withdrawal Syndrome

I miss football season. There's no hiding it. Going from seeing the same group of kids and families several times a week, every single week, from the end of July to November to no longer seeing most of them at all is tough. The bond that is formed amongst the team is in my opinion, unlike any other. You become more than a team; you become family.

So it's no surprise that many of us currently find ourselves suffering from what I like to call, Football Withdrawal Syndrome or FWS.

Football Withdrawal Syndrome- a set of symptoms that occur in a football mama at the end of the season; usually in October or November. Symptoms completely dissolve at the start of the next season; usually in late July or early August.

If you have at least 5 of the 10 symptoms listed below, than you mama may be suffering from FWS too.

  1. Wearing your football spirit wear to basketball games (or whatever other sport your child is currently participating in).
  2. The inability to pack your cowbell away.
  3. Reminiscing through the 579 football photos on your iPhone... several times a day.
  4. Logging into TeamSnap, even though you know there is nothing new for you to view.
  5. Still buying your oranges and Gatorades in bulk.
  6. Filling your "team mom" board on Pinterest with ideas and inspiration for next season.
  7. Finding turf (turds) in your house and feeling like tearing up, instead of screaming.
  8. Eating dinner at 6pm like a normal family.
  9. Playing a team in your child's current sport that happens to be from the same area of a team that beat you during football season, and thinking how much you hate them.
  10. Counting down the months, days, hours, and seconds until next season.

Don't worry mamas, FWS doesn't last forever!

10 Signs You're Probably a Football Mom

We're a special bunch. I mean, let's face it. It definitely takes a special type of mama to let her child play tackle football.

Here are ten telltale signs that you're probably a football mom...

  1. You take your Summer vacations BEFORE the start of the season. Beach trip in August? Where they do that at!? August is for tackling, not building sand castles!
  2. Your team colors are the new black! You are constantly browsing store aisle after store aisle for anything and EVERYTHING in them; nail polish, hats, bracelets, sweatshirts. You name it, you've got it. In fact, you have an entire dresser drawer dedicated entirely to football season!
  3. You don't eat dinner before 8pm. You're at the football field for two hours every evening. Even if you could eat dinner before practice, why would you? Your player is going to be STARVING afterwards. Why make extra work for yourself?
  4. You make your grocery list with your child's teammates in mind. As a matter of fact, you ditched the grocery store all together! You go to Costco to buy all of your fruit and snacks in bulk. How else will you be able to feed the entire small army team?
  5. You can slice 10 large, navel oranges in no time. Heck, you can probably slice them with your eyes closed. Just kidding about the eyes closed part. Please don't attempt that!
  6. Your car smells like a portable locker room. Shoulder pads + helmets  + gloves + super sweaty kids ... need I say more?
  7. You have no free Saturdays from August until November. And you're all good with that. There's not a place you'd rather be than on the bleachers cheering for your kid and their team!
  8. Your kitchen cupboard is filled with more water bottles than cups. And you're not ashamed to drink out of them yourself. It's 5pm somewhere, right?
  9. You have no voice on Sundays. You were cheering and yelling "HIT HIM!" at the very top of your lungs the day prior. No shame in your game. If you're not their number one fan, who else will be?!
  10. You're thirty-something and can still fit into a size youth large. Not really. Not at all actually. But you do your BEST to squeeze into their extra practice jersey on game days. Work it, girl!

Good luck this season, mamas!
